Rose-singer simply sighed. "Something they were working on... Did you catch what that something was, by any chance? This could be crucial information. We can't let the populace keep secrets from us." He fluttered past her and landed on a different branch so that he had a better view of the ground below.
She adjusted her weight and dove to the left, deciding to check by the stream. "Aarne?" she called once the flowing water came into view. "You around?"

"I did not, I'm sorry. I didn't see them either, since I didn't want to be found out. I wish I did better." At this, she looked down at the branch she was on.
Aarne jumped, the rock where he discarded the withered herbs nearly hitting his foot. "I'm here! Nearly made me loss my foot," he mumbled the last part to himself.

Rose-singer stared down at the earth below. Something was stirring. He could practically hear the hushed voices coming from all sides, whispering words of rebellion and revolution. He gripped the branch he stood upon tightly in his talons, hearing it crack. Thankfully, it didn't break. "You will use everything in your power to find out who these birds are," he ordered, turning around. "Then you will send them to me. Understood?"
Kiyasa landed on the ground and hopped over to Aarne. "Oh, good, found you. Who all do you know as far as other sages go? I don't know how much you folk intermingled, but did you know anyone who worked in the army? Particularly, anyone who was kicked out of their job when Rose took over?" If Aarne could narrow out the list of suspects, her life would be much easier.

"Understood, Aurestra Rose-singer." She kept her head down, thoughts going through her head before she decided to ignore and push them away. "Anything else you would like me to do?"
Aarne thought about the sages he had worked with, "There were a few, but I was also kicked out of my job during that time. We really only mingled with one another if it was work related. Why bring my old occupation into this?"

"For now, that is all I'll ask of you," Rose-singer answered with a shake of his head. "I expect good things, Arethusa."
"I was talking to Arethusa," Kiyasa answered. "She told me she overheard some birds talking about some strange experiment, something they plan to awaken. She thinks it was a pair of sages that she was listening to, so I thought you might know them is all. Any clue?"

"I will do my best to find these pests." Arethusa dipped her head, turning around before taking off.
"Experiment?" Aarne looked away. "I've heard of something like that, but not much."

Rose-singer watched her go, then he vanished among the leaves of the grand tree and went about his own business.
Kiyasa hopped closer to him. "Do you know who was involved?"

"I know very little, but it started before the assassination. Some of us sages were in charge of it, while I was a sage also during that time, I was only given messages to give to the ones that were involved. So besides being a messenger for them, I learned a bit about it in general." Aarne looked down, shuffling his feet. "It was held in secret, and it was the pride of the sages. I don't know what's happening now, but it kept most of us busy. I'm not sure what else to say, and I don't remember the other sage's names."

Kiyasa groaned and her wings drooped until they dragged on the grassy forest floor. "No good, I guess I'll have to use what I know to find our culprits. But where do I even begin? I know plenty of sages..." She sighed, feeling a sudden burden pressing down upon her. "Well, I've been craving work, so it's work I got, I guess. Maybe Vyaj can help. He worked strategy and had a higher rank than me, so he might have an idea or two."

Aarne nodded, then stopped to think. "If Arethusa told you this, did she say that she was going to tell Rose-singer this as well? If so, she'll need two birds to fill their place if we want to find what that experiment is."

Kiyasa nodded slowly. "...Yes, she said she would inform Rose-singer to an extent. Hm, what a tricky situation this is proving to be."

"If we can find her, I suggest talking to her to help her make a decision. Two innocent lives may be taken, but this would lead that hawk away from us." Aarne flew up a bit, hovering in mid air as he waited for Kiyasa.

Kiyasa nodded along. "Yes, I agree. let us be going, then." She took flight and let her wings carry her away.

Aarne followed quietly, looking around as he flew.
Arethusa was in her nest, thinking about what to do. She found herself stuck, wondering which two bird's would she bring to her death. The thought made her shudder, and she shook her head.

"Arethusa, where might we find you?" Kiyasa mumbled, looking around. "Hm, I hope she's nowhere near the oak tree. I don't want to be any closer to Rose-singer than I have to be, and that is pushing the line."

"I say her nest first, if anyone asks, we can say we have info for her," Aarne replied. "I don't want to be their either, but we have to do this."

Kiyasa took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay, yes, you're right. Let's go, then." She put her senses on high alert and changed course for the big oak tree that Rose-singer and his closest acquaintances called home.

Aarne landed outside the falcon's nest, poking his head in. "Arethusa?" He hopped in, going up to her and nudging her. Receiving no reply, he shook his head. "Why are you shocked all of a sudden?"

Kiyasa looked around, then slipped inside after Aarne and approached Arethusa. "Hey, Arethusa?" she asked, tilting her head at the falcon. "Hey, what's the matter? Talk to us," she urged.

Arethusa jumped, shaking her head and calming down when she realized who was with her. "W-What do you need?" She breathed, relaxing.
