"I know, I just have a bad feeling." Scarlet flattened her ears, forcing them to perk up when she spotted a few cats. Then more. A dark grey tom looked at them, leaping off a pile of logs and running off. The ones that stayed sat up. A rusty brown she-cat looked up, she appeared shocked and ran off to a group. The grey tom returned, but now accompanied by a reddish brown tom with a brown throat.
"Newcomers? This is a surprise, usually we don't have any nowadays," the tom said. There was a lighter patch of fur where his right eye should be. The remaining yellow one glowed happily.

Dawnscar took the lead. He approached the grey, one-eyed tom and dipped his head, letting a light smile play on his muzzle. "A pleasant surprise, I hope!" he joked. "Nice to meet you, what's your name?" Mintpaw stared at him, eyes round. "He's a good actor," she whispered to Hollowpaw, who was watching intently.

The reddish brown tom stayed where he was, the grey tom going towards a group. "A friendly one, a kind newcomer is even rarer." He smiled. "My name is Bracken, and welcome to my group. What's all of your names?" He spoke sweetly once he spotted Oddkit. She backed up, stopping when Soul wrapped his tail around her. "Sun." "Dew." "Storm." "Soul, and this is Oddity." "Hawk." "Scarlet." "Scarlet? I remember you. How's your brother doing?" Scarlet froze, then snarling and unsheathing her claws. "You flea-pelt! You killed Ember! All because you wanted info of clan cats!" She glanced at the other cats that were apart of Bracken's group, who were starting growl out warnings. "I did because he got in the way. By the way, the wound you gave me healed well." Bracked held a paw against his head, next to the lighter patch of fur. He seemed to be enjoying this.

Everyone stiffened as the quarrel broke out between Scarlet and Bracken. Dawnscar moved to step between them but Hollowpaw dashed over to him before he could intervene. "Wait and see where this is going," he hissed under his breath. "We shouldn't act without full comprehension of the situation, or we risk getting ourselves into unnecessary predicaments." Dawnscar heeded the young apprentice's warning and stood back, but he didn't like it. His tail was twitching irritably.

"You ruined my life, he was all I had left and you took it!" She snapped, lashing her tail and digging her claws into the ground. "Now you come back with a mouse-brained group! A bunch of lost kittypets and rogues and loners, all of which just wanted to belong, and you poison their mind with your words! What kind of cat do you think you are?" "One who wants to kill the ones who destroyed my home. You think I'd forget a cat who killed my mother in front of me? Whose idea was it, to bring a cat I knew here? You could've fooled me if the two of you weren't here. Hawk, right? Do you remember my face?" Hawk tilted his head, narrowing his eyes. "I don't care for a cat who has an ugly maw." Bracken seemed annoyed, looking at his group. "Well you'll remember after today! I can't wait to see wild cat blood spilled across these logs!" He was smiling happily, like he dreamed of this for moons. "Friends, let's kill these wild cats!" They sped forward without another moment.

Dawnscar quickly reared into the air. "Come on!" he growled to his fellow clan cats, then he lurched forward and used the momentum to crash into the nearest oncoming enemy. Icepetal hissed, casting a worried glance at the apprentices, and hurried to follow in Dawnscar's pawsteps. Hollowpaw and Mintpaw looked at each other, silently agreeing to work together. One small cat was easy pickings, but two were a bundle of trouble. Burningsky was quick to act and took a defensive stance at the back rather than rushing to meet the action head on.

Hawk charged forward with Scarlet, using their rage to fuel the strength behind their attacks. Soul and Storm teamed up, using their speed instead of their strength. Sun and Dew worked with one another, with one confusing one and the other attacking them and sending them off. Oddkit ran to hide, finding a bush, only to run off into another spot with a squeak when a cat was thrown into it.

Dawnscar grappled with a tom around his size and tossed him to the side, then pinned him to the ground and battered his face. Icepetal stood her ground as an enemy charged her, then spun around at the last moment and used her powerful hind legs to stun them. Then she moved onto her next opponent. Burningsky balanced her weight on her hind paws and deflected her opponent's attacks, one by one. The apprentices fought together to the best of their abilities, with Hollowpaw directing their attacks and Mintpaw executing the more important blows.

Bracken leapt down from his perch, racing towards someone. Scarlet spotted him, running after him after she saw who he was going for. Hawk didn't care that she left, letting his claws and fangs wound and drive away the cats that came in his way. Sun hissed as a cat grappled onto her back, rolling and pinning the cat down as Dew batted at another one. Soul slid underneath an opponent, standing and sending the cat sprawling, in which Storm attacked their belly.

Dawnscar handled each opponent, one by one, without faltering. His movements were precise, and his attacks focused on the brute strength he possessed. Icepetal bumped into Burningsky as she was tackling one of her foes and the two of them teamed up, using their similar tactics to incapacitate the enemy cat. The apprentices kept on pushing, ignoring the minor wounds they had accumulated and keeping their spirits high.

Bracken raced away, a different cat chasing him. "Let's bring this back to the winning aside. Everyone go!" Tyso yowled, his group running out and joining the fight. Garchie ran over to the apprentices, helping them out as her friends teamed up with the other clan cats. Tyso joined Hawk, and Rowley attacked the grey tom from before.

Mintpaw and Hollowpaw acknowledged their new teammate and continued the fight. Burningsky and Icepetal fought off any cats that showed their heads in their vicinity, and eventually Dawnscar joined them to put a bit more of a punch into their attacks.

There was a yowl from Bracken, cutting off quickly as a tan and black tom dug his fangs into his throat. When the leader went limp, most of the cats scattered. The ones who stayed continued to fight, only to run when they couldn't take any blows. The cat who killed Bracken shook his head, spitting out blood and gazing at the bodies that littered the ground. He ran back from where he came from, frightened. "Somebody find some cobwebs or moss! Someone!" A black cat yowled, his eyes showed his panicking. Soul turned his head, jumped and running over. "Scarlet!"

Everyone was quickly distracted from the scattering cats by the panicked screeching coming from the black cat. The five of them rushed over to see what was happening, worried about the scene they'd find when they arrived.

"A twoleg pelt would do, just find something!" The black cat held his paws against Scarlett's theist, his paws caked in crimson while a black collar lay torn underneath. The tan and black tom was about to dash off when Tyso stopped him. "What happened?" Sun asked, letting Hawk go over to Soul and a terrified Oddkit. Dew shrunk back at the scene, while Storm's eyes widened at the sight. "Bracken took a death blow for Oddkit," Soul muttered, a wail of apology erupting from the kit beside him. Tyso walked forward, calmly facing the panicked tom. "Let her go, Nightfire." "I'm not letting my adoptive mother die! Sunshade, you want her to live too, right?" His brother nodded, but nudged him aside. "A blow to a theist is death. Let her," a screech of refusal came from the tom. The brothers quieted down though, turning to their dying mother and nuzzling her.
"Do I have your attention now?" Scarlet spat, her voice wavering.

Icepetal gasped and shied away, nudging the kits backwards with her. Dawnscar's expression hardened into a frustrated glower, and Burningsky just watched on with round eyes. Hollowpaw glanced over Icepetal's shoulder, then bit his tongue and ducked his head low. Mintpaw frowned and struggled to get a look at the scene, but Icepetal held her back. "What, what's going on?!" she asked, concern burning wild in her eyes. "Scarlet is dying," Hollowpaw told her. "Icepetal. You shouldn't hold her back like that. It isn't fair." Icepetal clenched her jaw, then stepped out of Mintpaw's way. The apprentice drew in a sharp, shocked breath, and immediately froze in place. "Oh no," she breathed.

"Listen to me well, for I'm going to talk as long as I have breath in my body. You're all good cats, your clans are good too. I used to know you all as wild cats, a myth to satisfy my imagination. I grew curious about you, even asking these fireballs numerous questions about your life." She flicked her tail towards the five. "They told me about Starclan, and I accepted that belief. I believed I was being watched by someone. Dunno who, but someone who cared. I spread it to my friends. Tyso is helping me spread it further, and even my brother, Ember, helped. When Nightfire and Sunshade were found, I gave them warrior names and taught them what I knew. They made it worth living when Ember died. When he did though, he said he could see a cat waiting. Waiting to lead him to peace." Her breathing wavered, her dulling gaze landing on a familiar pelt. Only this time, there were stars. "I loved a tom dearly and broke down when he left. I've killed three kittypets I considered my friends and cried. I smiled with everyone and snarled at others. But I don't regret a thing that happened in my life, not a single moment. Because all of you are in it." Scarlet smiled happily. It'd been so long since she smiled. "I see you waiting Ember. Don't worry furball, I'll join you soon." Her eyes went vacant, and her head fell back to the ground. The kits she raised cried as they tried to relish in their warmth before it faded.

Dawnscar lowered his head and stood silent vigil for the newly deceased she-cat. After choking back a sob, Icepetal joined him and did the same. "No kits should have to watch their mother die," she murmured before closing her eyes and falling quiet. Burningsky stayed where she was. The startled look had left her face and she edged away a few paces before quietly sitting down and watching everyone else handle the situation. Mintpaw was still stunned silent, and Hollowpaw was gazing up at the sky, wondering if the she-cat's trip was going smoothly. He hoped so.

Tyso sat closer, sitting beside Sunshade. "Garchie, bury the others please." "I'll ask someone else to. I knew Scarlet when I was a lot, there's no way I'm missing her vigil." "Same here. She showed me kindness and gave me a home." Rowley and Garchie joined, but Hawk startled them. "Does anyone hear mewling?" He asked turned his head and padding over to a pile of logs.

The quiet cats' interests were caught when Hawk spoke, and they watched him walk over to the pile of logs, wondering what he'd find there.
