"The quicker we move, the sooner the packs hear of Avana's words," he turned to Tarka. "I'll be fine, if one reopens on the way, it can wait until we reach a base." Santolin limped forward, not waiting to hear an excuse, even though he knew Tarka meant well.

Tarka sighed, though she still disapproved. "Very well. Let us move, then, and hope for the best." She nodded and followed Santolin. Aekan fell in line as well.

Santolin walked forward, cautious as he made each step. "It's daytime I believe, so we should be safe for now. As safe as you can be anyway," he murmured the last part to himself.

"That's good," Aekan said. The words relaxed Tarka a small bit.

When they reached the end of the dark forest, Santolin stopped, hesitating. "It's been years since I've last seen sunlight. Take the lead, one of you, please. The land is unknown to me from this point on."

Aekan quickly took up the lead, beckoning with his tail for the other two to follow. "Alright. Follow behind me, then." He hesitantly stepped out into the light, blinking against the rays, which were harsh after going without them for a while. He felt bad for Santolin having to brace against the light after so long. But, the warmth and the colour was comforting, and he began the trek back to their base.

Santolin hissed when the sunlight hit his eyes, making him stumble until he stood still. When he opened his eyes after a few minutes, the landscape in front of him was unknown. He hesitated once more before limping after Aekan.

Tarka set her tail against Santolin's flank when he stumbled, letting him know she was there to keep him stable. Then, as Santolin recovered and followed Aekan, she did the same, feeling relieved and contented to be out of the sombre wood behind them.

He was amazed at the scenery, and seeing the animals made his stomach growl. "You've been having those while we've been having mice and rats!?" Santolin said, astonished.

Aekan grinned. "You bet. We can all have a big meal once we get to the base, how about. It's the least we deserve, don't you think?"

"Not sure. Just like at the beginning, it all depends on what the rest of the pack wants," he growled out the last word.

Aekan shook his head. "Whatever, we'll see when we get there. And we're almost there." He could see the base growing slowly closer. The entrance was in sight. Both raptors were looking forward to setting foot in their home once again.

Santolin followed quietly, uneasiness made his fur stand up. He could already hear the faint voices of the raptors inside the base.

Aekan looked at Santolin. "I'll go in and announce our arrival. you two wait here." Tarka nodded and Aekan walked into the base.
He looked around. "Hey, Viridian, are you here?" he called. "It's Aekan! We're back with news!"

Santolin looked around the forest, staying in his spot as he looked around.
Viridian ran out of her den, stopping in front of Aekan. She ignored the whispers from the other raptors. "Thank you stars, you're back. W-Where's Tarka?" she asked.

"Tarka's outside. She's fine. We brought someone with us." Feeling a little nervous about sharing the news, he lowered his voice. "He's a furred raptor. He saved us from the Starved and helped us figure out what's going on. He's out there with Tarka."

Aekan nodded. He poked his head outside, looking over at Tarka and Santolin. "Come on in you two."
Tarka looked over at Santolin, bracing herself for the worst as she made for the entrance.
