Viridian mumbled to herself, ignoring the small raptor that entered and huddled at her side.

Aekan returned and tossed the goat with the rest of the prey, then he sat alone and thought.
Tarka bustled about, keeping herself busy.
(Do you wanna skip to dawn?)

(Mhm, I'll start it off)
Viridian quietly left her den, leaving the child in her nest as she left. She trotted to the entrance of the base and waited, she had no appetite at the moment.

Aekan was already waiting there, and he looked up when Viridian approached. "Why, hello. I wondered when you'd show up. Now to wait on that squirrel of a healer you put me with." As if on cue, Tarka jogged over to them. There was a bag hanging around her neck, likely holding all the supplies she prepared the previous day. "S-sorry I'm late. I'm ready."

"You aren't late Tarka, you're fine. Now, let's go," the raptor walked out of the base. Her head was held high, despite what thoughts clouded her mind. "The Starved territory is an eternal night, you won't be able to know what the time is unless you come out of there. As I said yesterday, those creatures mainly use sight. Their sense of smell and hearing have dulled. They can't climb, so trees are your best place to sleep. Stay together at all times, otherwise you're as good as dead. The Starved aren't called that for nothing, they'll eat you alive." Viridian glanced back at the two before facing forward again.

Aekan nodded along, looking ahead and keeping his expression void of any emotions he was experiencing. Tarka, on the other hand, was a bundle of nervous energy. It almost emanated from her, clouding the air like a thick, invisible gas. "I can climb fine, and I've heard Tarka could live in the trees if she wanted to. That won't be a problem. Long as we stay hidden it shouldn't be too much of an issue, it sounds like, and since we can hear and smell better than they can, we should be able to notice them before they get too close anyway. This'll be simple," Aekan concluded, keeping his eyes on the horizon. "Besides, I'm sure I don't taste like much other than a mouthful of venom, which is what they'll be getting if they take a bite out of me." He sniffed, seeming semi amused.

"Their scales had darkened to match the scenery, so you have to be aware at all times. They can't swim either, so running rivers are another thing that may help you. That's all I can tell to help you," Viridian stopped, the border to the dark forest tail-lengths away from her. "I wish you both luck, and a safe return."

"Alright," Aekan said, nodding. "Come on, squirrel healer. Let's get this over with." He backed up a few paces so that he could push Tarka into the woods, and they disappeared into its thick shadows. "Where should we even begin to search?" Tarka whispered, waving her tail in a display of unease. Her every nerve was tense and her body would probably fly sky high if she were startled at that moment. Aekan shrugged. "Our best bet of finding something would be to move towards the centre of the forest, but we can't get too close. We wouldn't want to stumble upon their base, if they have one. Come on." He beckoned with his head and took the lead.

Viridian watched as the raptors took their leave. "Stay safe you two, and come back soon," she muttered. She turned and went back to the base.
The forest was at an odd silence. Screeches were faint, and were usually cut off quickly. Carcasses of raptors, or some other creature appeared here in there. If it wasn't for the atmosphere, and what the forest itself held, it wouldn't have been that bad.

Aekan, urging Tarka along, pushed through the growth and further into the woods, both of them keeping their ears and noses attentively focused on their surroundings, since their senses of sight were rendered useless by the suffocating gloom. Tarka jumped at the distant noises, but Aekan stayed calm, apart from the occasional nervous twitch of his scaly hands.

A nearby hiss, followed by a couple of growls sounded throughout the forest. After that, there was silence and nothing more. Then, a rustling of a bush and a thin, dark scaled creature came out. It's eyes void of color, it's bones visible through it's pelt. It seemed to have feathers here and there, most of them bent or just needles.

Aekan gestured for Tarka to take shelter, since she was obviously too jumpy to put up a good fight. Then he darted forward and attacked the sickly looking creature, aiming to bite into whatever he could and inject his deadly venom into its bloodstream. If he wasn't concerned with killing it, he might have marvelled over its bizarre, disturbing appearance.

The creature darted forward with a shriek, hoping to push over Aekan. Two more creatures, both with different darkened colored pelts. The two didn't have feathers, unlike the first one. With a snarl, the two lurched forward. One of them, however, was tackled and tossed to the side, the cause of the action was unknown. "Run to the river before the rest of them come here! You sane idiots!" A voice called, pushing a creature into a bramble bush.

Aekan was surprised by the voice, but seeing as he'd been saved by whoever it came from, he didn't hesitate to follow the order he'd been given. Running to Tarka's side, he shoved her into action and they sprinted away from the scene. Aekan hoped he'd still be able to gather the info he needed now that he'd alerted the Starved to his presence.

A rushing river, with stepping stones that were slick from the water, could be heard as the two Starved creatures chased after them. The one that was caught in the bramble bush was following shortly behind. The creature that had called out raced after them through the trees, ready to help one of the sane raptors if they slipped into the stream.

Aekan bounced nimbly across the stepping stones and to the other side. Tarka slipped a few times, but her reflexes and her momentum kept her moving forward, and she soon cleared the river, following just a step behind Aekan.

The Starved tried crossing the river, but slipped and fell into the running stream. One almost made it across, but fell as it lost it's footing on the last step. A raptor dropped down from the trees, shaking it's pelt of leaves. "It's not everyday fresh meat comes here, and it's not everyday it survives," the raptor it's limbs. It's body was void of scales, only black and brown fur remained. A scare laid across it's shoulders, and it's eyes glowed a pail yellow.

"It's not everyday fresh meat comes here, and it's not everyday it survives," the raptor it's limbs. (This is the most beautiful sentence I've ever read.) Tarka changed the colours of her scaly skin to blend in with her surroundings, frightened of the furred raptor before them. Aekan stepped back, surprised, but made no attempt to hide. "Who are you?" he asked, long tail swishing. He had the feeling they were free from harm, but he would rather be safe than sorry, especially with this peculiar raptor who he didn't know.

("the raptor it's limbs") (I'm just going to keep that there! It's like when I said 'He grabbed a boy and a quiver full of arrows' in Limelight!) (I meant "the raptor stretched its limbs." Why do I do this!? XD)
"I have no name, so call me what you like," he responded. He watched as one changed disappeared before him, amused. "Calm down there healer, I won't harm you. I won't harm either of you, considering you both still have your sanity." Looking around the area they were in, he turned back to look at Aekan. "I'll answer more questions at the haven, if you follow me that is." With that said, he walked off.

(I still love that 'boy and quiver' typo, one of my favourites! XD)
Aekan's eyes followed the unnamed raptor as he plodded away. Then he looked back at Tarka. "This is our best chance to get answers," he said, and started following. Tarka absolutely did not want to be left alone in the dangerous forest, so she tailed after them, catching up in only a few seconds.
