She heard footsteps. Lots of footsteps. Like a group of cats were racing through the undergrowth. She looked around.

She squeaked and jumped back as a large group of cats rushed past her.

They stopped and watched the running cats.

The group stopped after a while. They were all panting and their fur was messy and ragged. Some cats had stains of ash on their pelts.

A few cats bristled, but one stepped forward. "A fire chased us out of our home." She mewed weakly, coughing.
