As young Isaac was wandering through the world underneath his house, seeking refuge from his murderous mother, pushing through hoards of sickeningly grotesque and straight up frightening creatures alike, he happened across the last thing he through he would see.
Another child.
He approached this child and found they were striving towards the same goal. They both wanted to overcome the evils of this place and banish Isaac's mother so they could return to their normal lives. Eventually, they gathered up their power and together defeated her, also ridding the countless rooms, both ones they had travelled through and ones they had passed in their eagerness to leave, of their dark inhabitants. They pushed even further than that and defeated the source of all evil, Satan himself.
Unfortunately, the two found they were trapped in that wretched place. The place where they nearly met death time and time again, the place where they had lost much and experienced obscurities no child should witness, the place that haunted their every sleeping second. As much as it hurt their morale, their strong spirits were unwavering as they decided they would stay, and find ways to travel back up to the places they had passed through early on, the places previously unreachable again once they left, and tame even the darkest reaches.
They also found other children on their travels, each one with different strengths, weaknesses, and personalities.
Together they explored every corner of the land, from Isaac's cellar to the depths of the devil's lair. Together they grew stronger. Together they conquered the dark world to which they were bound.
A long time had passed. Isaac and his friends remained eternally young in the cursed place, though they held wisdom to match any elder. They had rid themselves of the powers they had attained, considering them unneeded. They were as happy as they could get in the place where the air reeked of depression.
But they began to notice things were changing. It started when he woke up and saw a fly buzzing around. He killed the petty creature and left the room he was in, only to be greeted by one of his friends, panic sparking in her eyes. "They're coming back! Gather everyone, we need to run!"
Indeed, they were coming back. Creatures of evil once again began roaming the halls. They were stronger than ever before. Everyone was separated in their quest to get away. Isaac was once again a helpless child, locked in the basement alone, fighting creatures familiar and brand new, desperate to survive.
Isaac's mom had returned, and she was on a quest for revenge.

Info on the Game:
Note: This story has a lot of religious ties.
Isaac and his mother lived alone in a small house on a hill. Isaac kept to himself drawing pictures and playing with his toys as his mom watched Christian broadcasts on the television. Life was simple and they were both happy. That was until the day Isaac's mom heard a voice from above:
"Your son has become corrupted by sin. He needs to be saved."
"I will do my best to save him, my Lord," Isaac's mother replied, rushing into Isaac's room, removing all that was evil from his life.
Again the voice called to her:
"Isaac's soul is still corrupt. He needs to be cut off from all that is evil in this world and confess his sins."
"I will follow your instructions, Lord. I have faith in thee," Isaac's mother replied as she locked Isaac in his room away from the evils of the world.
One last time Isaac's mom heard the voice of God calling to her:
"You've done as I've asked, but I still question your devotion to me. To prove your faith, I will ask one more thing of you."
"Yes, Lord. Anything," Isaac's mother begged.
"To prove your love and devotion, I require a sacrifice. Your son, Isaac, will be this sacrifice. Go into his room and end his life as an offering to me, to prove you love me above all else."
"Yes, Lord," she replied, grabbing a butchers knife from the kitchen.
Isaac, watching through a crack in his door, trembled in fear. Scrambling around his room to find a hiding place, he noticed a trapdoor to the basement hidden under his rug. Without hesitation, he flung open the hatch just as his mother burst through his door and threw himself down into the unknown depths below...
That is the game's opening cutscene. But what is the game actually like?
It's a top down, dungeon crawling, randomly generated, one shot/one life/permadeath type game. So you die and the game is over, you have to restart. You play as this kid named Isaac, and you have to go through several levels, each level containing two floors, each floor having a boss that you must defeat to progress. These bosses, along with the enemies that fill each room, range from disgusting, to terrifying, to strangely adorable. This game does a good job of making disgusting things adorable. As you go you collect items. These items can help and hinder in many ways. They can increase or decrease your stats, they can give you more money, bombs, keys, and health, they can change the way your character attacks, and so on. You are also constantly unlocking new items, characters, of which their are eleven, and even whole new stages/levels. Also, you attack with tears...
Each time you run through the game it's different. In one game you could find an item that gives you more heart containers, some money, and fight the boss, for example, Monstro on the first floor. In a later game you could run into an item that lets you fly, a ton of keys, health that you can't even use because you don't have enough heart containers, and fight Larry Jr. No two games are exactly alike, and that's what's so beautiful about this game.
I do ask you do some of your own research, though, simply because I can't put info on each of the 40+ bosses, 300+ enemies, hundreds of items, and so on. I'll try my best to explain things as they come up. There will be lots of pictures in this RP I thinks.
If you want to know anything more about the game just ask!

The Characters
In this RP you can play as any character in the game, or you can make up your own! I do ask though, if you make your own, that it is unique. For example, the characters Isaac and Lazarus are pretty similar, except that Lazarus as an extra life and Isaac does not.
Here I'll do a quick summary of each in game character:
Isaac is the game's main character, and fairly well rounded. He has good starting attack, and three hearts of health to start with. After you beat the game with one of the other characters he gains a starting item, the dice, which you can use to swap items you find that you don't want and turn them into another random item. Found a health upgrade you can't use because you already have max heart containers? Reroll it, maybe you'll get a damage up!
More commonly known as Blue Baby, this is one of the stranger characters, and the way you unlock him is kept a secret. He has no solid health, making him a very risky character. He starts with three hearts known as 'spirit hearts' instead, and can't pick up any normal health as he has no heart containers.
Azazel is a character considered to be rather overpowered. He starts with one of the strongest weapons in the game, Brimstone, except it's very short range, the ability to fly, and he starts with three 'black hearts', which do damage to every enemy in the room when lost, and no red/real hearts. Unlike Blue Baby, though, Azazel can get red hearts by picking up health upgrades like most other characters.
Cain is a character you get by having over 55 coins in one run. He begins with two hearts and an item called the luck foot, which boosts the chance you'll get good things from gambling and run into stronger items.
Eden is probably the most intriguing character in the game. You unlock him by obtaining Eden Tokens. If you have two Eden Tokens, you can play as Eden two times, for example. The game does not tell you how it it you get these Tokens. The fun thing about him is that every time you play as him he is different. He starts with different stats, consumables (Keys, coins, and bombs), and two random items. A run with Eden could go many different ways. My one run with Eden didn't go very well because I had bad luck with the starting stats and items. He also has a different hair style each time you play as him. If you decide to use him in the RP, I'm excited to see how his randomness is used.
Eve is a very risky character. She has fairly low damage and starts with only two hearts. She is so risky because to make her worth while you need to take damage. She starts with two items, the Dead Bird, a familiar/follower that comes out and attacks enemies if you get hit in a room, and the Whore of Babylon, an item which gives your damage a crazy boost, but only activates once you get down to one heart. If you can find a way to survive with only one heart, then you'll do well with Eve.
(Played by myself)
Judas is a difficult character to play as. He starts with one heart, but has incredibly high damage. He also has an item called the Book of Belial, an item connected to the space bar. When charged it gives you a further increase in damage in the room it's activated in.
Lazarus is a lot like Isaac. He begins with the same stats and three hearts. What makes him different is he begins with a one up and a pill, the effect of which is different every time. If you die with Lazarus he will revive with the item Anemia, which leaves behind a trail of blood that damages enemies.
Sometimes referred to as Maggy, Magdalene is a fairly easy character to play as. She starts with decent damage and four hearts, except she has low movement speed. She also begins with an item known as the Yum Heart which, once charged, refills one empty heart container. She is unlocked when you have over seven heart containers in one run, a feat more difficult to achieve than it may seem.
Samson is another difficult character. He begins with two hearts(I think) and the item Bloody Lust, which increases his damage with each enemy killed in the room. He also has a low fire rate but high shot speed and range.
Finally, with this form you may create your own character:
Name:
Gender:
Appearance(All characters look like Isaac but with different hair styles and stuff):
Strengths and weaknesses:
Starting items/abilities:
Personality:
Other:
Just remember, your character can't be too overpowered. Look at Azazel, incredibly strong, but you have to get close to enemies to hit them, and that can be scary on later floors. As we go on your character can gain new abilities and items, and can get rid of an item whenever it wishes, even if it is a main game character.
Here I'll do a quick summary of each in game character:
