Kiyasa sighed. "Hey, I can be kinda rough sometimes, but I mean well," she grumbled, embarrassed by the question. "You've done us an immense amount of good so far and it hasn't even been long. I'm a soldier, nothing wins my respect over better than results. Well, other than honourability and stuff, but in a situation like this, we all fall a bit short in the ethical department. War isn't a fancy playground for politely-mannered kids to exchange pleasantries, now is it?" She looked off. "And while I don't plan to stab anyone I don't have to, whether literally or figuratively, I'd be forever honoured to go down in the name of my beliefs. That's what makes a soldier. But hey, that's one bird's take."

"All of you are so strange to me, it's kind of funny how different I am from all of you. War just brings sorrow and death, but it's all I know. I agree with your words though, it's a good explanation for how one can see what a soldier has to endure." She shook her head, mumbling to herself as she looked at the water again.

She glanced back at Arethusa and hopped a little closer. "What makes you so different?" she wondered. "If you're here, working with us, then we must have at least a few key things in common, don't you think?"

"If survival is what we have in common, that'd be it. I don't find anything else that's common," Arethusa glanced at her, shrugging.

"Well whatever you say, Arethusa," Kiyasa relented. "Anyway, we've got everything pretty well sorted out for the time being. Anything else you guys wanted to discuss while we're all together here?"

"Just get me those stand-ins as soon as you can. Rose-singer is angry enough," She stepped back, looking around before taking off. Aarne shook his head, sighing. "I don't understand birds of prey."

"No, they're quite unusual, aren't they?" Kiyasa agreed. "I've met many, but ii's as if their brains are wired differently."

"If I could, I would see how different their brains are to a regular bird. Probably wouldn't go anywhere with it though." Aarne shrugged, turning away and bouncing onto a rock.

"Yeah, doubt it. Then again, they probably think us insect- and plant-eaters are pretty weird, too. Funny how it all works in the end." She dunked her head into the river, then stood up again and used the water to give her feathers a quick cleaning. Then she spun around. "Anyway, I suppose I'll get going. Lot's to think about."

"Agreed. I'll see you later then." Dipping his head, he took off without another word. A nights rest sounded good to him right about now.

(Time skip to when the ex-sage brings Arethusa the stand-ins?)

(I shall ) There was a rustling among the branches of the tree in which the high-advisor nested the next morning. It was a tree few birds dared near, but this bird had important business. "Excuse me, Ms. Advisor?" he called, keeping his head low in a reverent bow. "I come on business, Milady. I'd be ever humbled if you would lend me an ear."

She looked up, feeling herself stiffen before speaking. "I'll listen. Come in, and speak quickly. I'm going on a patrol soon and I rather not miss the time to do so." Her talons tapped against her nest, impatient and unnerved.

The bird entered, maintaining his bow. "Greetings. If you are leaving on patrol, might I simply accompany you? It would be easier for me to explain the situation without a time limit, if it wouldn't be a hinderance." Then he lowered his voice to a mere whisper and said, "I'm Shijin, ex-sage, and I have your stand-ins."

Arethusa blinked, relieved and yet surprised. She thought her throat would be handed to her today, not this. "It's nice to meet you, ex-sage Shijin. Where are these stand-ins?" She asked quietly. "And you can rise, seeing a bird bow makes me sick."

Shijin obeyed without complaint. "Ah, thank you, my back was beginning to cramp up there." Then he glanced outside, shifting his wings with hesitant. "They're with my faithful assistant, Thalia. She is keeping them, ah, unaware of the situation for me. Shall I lead you there, Arethusa?"

"Please do. I don't think that killer's patience is holding," she nearly hissed out the words. Arethusa hopped out of her nest, waiting for Shijin to lead her. "Anything you want me to say to them, or just let me handle them?"

"We have them sedated at the moment, but they'll be awake shortly after we arrive. Your presence should keep them from questioning the circumstances, so do with them as you wish," Shijin explained as he fluttered through the air on light, black wings. He landed upon a thin branch and hopped further into the leaves. "This way, please."

Arethusa followed, keeping quiet as she followed the ex-sage. She kept her head low and her eyes narrowed, wondering who she'd be bringing to the reaper.
