Soul looked at Mintpaw. "Slatestar was the sixth leader of Willowclan, along with the other four leaders: Amberstar of Oakclan, Ravenstar of Birchclan, Cinderstar from Cedarclan, and Tornstar of Ashclan. Your leader is the thirteenth leader of Slatestar. And each leader lasts about three dozen moons. There's about twelve moons each year. So, if we were born around the fifth leaders of the clans, and exiled when the sixth or seventh leaders were in charge. How old does that make us?"

Mintpaw listened closely to Soul, then paused to count. She was quiet for a long while as she calculated, then mewed, "Older than 15 years... That isn't possible! You all look so young and lively..." She refused to believe what she was hearing, and was very confused, as she had the inkling feeling they weren't lying.

"We didn't believe it either too when we first wondered how we were still living." Soul looked up at the sky. "I guess that's what happens when Starclan doesn't fulfill their promise. We wouldn't except death and live in the afterlife with something that should have never happened." He glanced at Hawk and watched as he talked quietly with Sun.
"What we do today, and will keep doing, is protect the right, and kill the wrong. Why do you think Dew brings lost kits back home? Why does Sun protect warriors and apprentices from death from badgers, foxes, and other clan cats? Why does Storm sing to the ones that are in sorrow, or when in troubled times? Why does Hawk kill the traitors and send them to the unknown reaches of the Dark Forest? Why do I, search for someone to complete my goal with me? The question always starts with a why when you ask us some questions."

Mintpaw, for a few moments, remained silent. If she was being honest, she was rather overwhelmed at the moment. She looked at Soul, then at each other cat in turn, shifting her paws. "So... Will you always just keep doing that then, and never show yourselves to the clans again?" She asked, eyes round.

"The clans betrayed us, and so did Starclan. Yet we remain loyal because we want everything to stay peaceful," Hawk replied, his back to everyone. "The jobs we do are ones we would gladly do. I hate traitors....so I kill them before anyone else is killed. A dozen moons back, the clans would call me Deathfang." Sun nodded at this, "They used to call me Sunpath, not much different from my real name, but yeah..." Dew thought for a moment, "if I remember right, the kits and mothers called me Starlight. Not sure why.." "I was Songbird...I don't mind it," Storm added. When they looked at Soul, he didn't say anything.

Mintpaw also gazed expectantly at Soul, and seemed confused when he stayed quiet. "Did you have a nickname?" She decided to ask.

His claws raked the ground. "They never gave me a name, and last time I showed myself, I was called a traitor." Hawk walked over to him and nudged him gently. "He lost his mate when she was pushed off Into the ravine. He killed him in return, but now everyone just judges him." Storm explained.

Mintpaw frowned. Wow, seems like this guy led a tough life. "That's unfair," she murmured, shifting her paws.

Storm nodded, wrapping his tail around his paws. "He knows a lot of tactics and battle moves as well. Sadly, he hasn't trained anyone."

Mintpaw nodded slowly. She looked at everyone, ears drooping slightly. She had learned a lot that day... She wasn't quite sure what to think of all this new information. She then got to her paws. "My clan mates are probably wondering where I am," she said quietly, ear flicking.

"I'll take you to the border, and hunt a bit for you. Need an excuse for being out for a long time," Dew said, standing up and stretching. Soul turned to look at the two. "We'll be at the next clan gathering. If you want to share your discovery on us with the other apprentices, go right ahead." "NO! I have had enough of other clan cats interfering!" Hawk snapped at the black tom. Soul looked at him before saying, "You could teach someone your moves. Think about that." Hawk thought for a moment before growling out an agreement. "I want to train either a warrior or an apprentice, but I want one that can handle my method of training. Shadowpelt didn't become deputy without my training!"

Mintpaw listened to them argue. "The next gathering...?" So she'd be seeing them again, and soon? This was getting exciting, she had to admit. Though, it was fairly exciting in the first place. She couldn't wait to tell her friends! Or maybe she wouldn't tell them? Well, she probably would in the end, whether or not it was intentional. She had a habit of letting things slip. She looked at Dew, nodding to him. "Okay!" Then she looked at the others. "I-I guess I... I'll see you all at the gathering!" Then she started excitedly bouncing away, forgetting to wait for her escort.

Dew ran after her, chuckling at the apprentice's excitement. She slowed once she caught up with Mintpaw. "Be ready to hunt when we get back to Willowclan territory, alright?" She told her, giggling when she thought she heard Hawk yelling again.

Mintpaw looked at Dew. "Got it!" she answered, nodding. "I'll catch so much prey my mentor will excuse the fact I accidentally got thorns in the elders' nests yesterday!" Then she stiffened. "A-ah uh, I-I mean, I never did that! Nope! Not me! It was definitely, totally, absolutely Vinepaw! Not me!"

Dew decided not to continue talking about the thorn in the elders' nest. "I'll help with your catches as well, so it won't last as long. Meet you back here in a matter of minutes?"

Mintpaw grinned and nodded before bouncing off, sticking her nose in the air to locate any and every scent that drifted her way.

As the minutes passed, Dew was waiting in the spot they parted, a few voles and mice at her paws.

Mintpaw returned not long later, dragging along a sparrow and two mice. She dropped them when she found Dew, panting. "Whew! That was hard," she huffed, ears drooping. "Now we've gotta get it all back to camp..."

"With mice and voles, all you need to do is hold their tails. For birds, you just carry it by the leg. It's easy, really," Dew said simply. She looked around, hoping no one was patrolling.

"Yeah, you could do that, but they're all still so heavy!" she exclaimed as she gazed at the collection of prey, ears flicking as she contemplated how she could possibly manage the trek back to camp. "I guess if I wanna be a warrior I've gotta be strong enough to carry a lot of prey, though, hm?" She gazed questioningly at Dew, head tipped slightly to the left.
