She shook her head with a sigh.

"Whatever happens, we'll have each other's backs." Gupta said, looking up.

Jasmine nodded. "Good. Anyway, let's continue with the lesson... Anyone want to try writing Ra's name?"

Gupta knew how to wright out Ra's name, but he decided to let someone else do it first, if they spoke up anyway.

Lexin decided to give it a shot. He wrote out the symbol for R and A, then added the flag symbol. Jasmine chuckled. "Nope. That was a bit of a trick question. You see, Ra has his own little hieroglyph. Anyone know what it looks like?"

Aziza shook her head. "I do, but I've never written it out." Gupta said.

"Well, why don't you give it a shot!" Jasmine responded.

He hesitated, then nodded. He bought for a moment before writing the hieroglyphic that meant 'Ra.'

She smiled. "Well done. Depicted in this glyph is the Divine One himself sitting upon a throne with an ankh in his hands, symbolizing he is the king of all life. The Egyptians are quite intricate with their writings."

"There are a few different ways it can be written, but this is the simplest one, so we'll stick with it. Let's move this slightly back into spell territory." She waved a hand over the ground and hieroglyphs appeared. The symbols for n, i, and s, with i and s next to each other and n above them, followed by what seemed to be a picture of a human. "This means summon. I want you to try writing out things that you could summon in hieroglyphs, and I'll say what you write, to see if it works. If it doesn't, I'll show you how it's correctly written and we'll try it again. For example..." She drew what looked like a necklace, with two lines through the circular pendant, the symbols for I and W, then a picture of a cat. "This word, miw, means cat. Now... Nis miw!" She raised her hands and pointed at the ground, and a cat appeared. She crouched down and looked at it. "Nad hir, xenomus." She rubbed it's furry ears.

Lexin looked at the cat, impressed. Jasmine murmured something and the cat disappeared. "Alright, anyone want to try?"

Lexin thought, then wrote the word 'hefaw' on the ground. Then he blinked. "I..." Jasmine smiled. "Just being in the presence of a magician using magic can help a beginner along. The word you wrote, it means snake. Nis hefaw!" She said the words and a cobra formed on the ground. It looked at them each, tongue flicking. It reared up and flared it's cape, showing off it's fangs. "Whoa, drem, hatep!" She scolded. When she said the word "hatep" a hieroglyph glowed on the cobra's head and the snake appeared to calm down, his cape flattening back onto his body.

"Hatep. Inik xenomus." She lifted the snake up and it wrapped around her arm and looked around, tongue flicking.

"Okay." She stroked the cobra's scaly neck. "You just startled him, that's all. Isn't he cute?" She placed her front two fingers under it's neck just behind it's head and examined it. "Fun fact, Ra's rule was ended by a snake. They weren't created by him, and so he had no protection from their deadly venom. Anyway, let's move on." The snake vanished after a whisper from Jasmine. "Anyone else?"

Aziza stayed behind Gupta. "She isn't really found of snakes, as you can see..." Gupta said, crossing his arms.
