Hawk nodded, "As you wish, and a wise one it is. Soul, Oddkit, would you like to join?" Soul nodded, standing up and stretching. Oddkit bounded over to Hawk, bouncing up and missing his chin as she tried to hit it. "What kind of question is that? Of course!" she mewed, looking up at the tom as Soul walked over. "Well, let us be on our way then. We're wasting daylight." Hawk nodded and flicked his tail, turning around and moving forward without another word.

Mintpaw smiled, happy to see Soul and Oddkit were tagging along, and she bounded after Hawk. Her bounce had returned and she eagerly kept pace. "Yay, I'm excited!"

Soul walked behind the two, looking down to see Oddkit by Hawk's side. "Try the clearing where you found the adder. It sounds like a good place, and there isn't any threats there now."
Hawk thought about it, "It was a good place. Depends if it has enough bushes or not. Mintpaw has to work with them." He remembered when he had trained his apprentice, making few compliments so they would work harder and gain more strength and skill. Hopefully, the same tactic could be used for Mintpaw, an apprentice from a different clan.

"Pfft," Mintpaw huffed, not responding otherwise to the subtle insult. "I'm sure that that will be a perfect place! I've gotten a little better than last time, but I'm sure you won't think so, will you, Hawk?" She smiled.

"Depends on what you show me," Hawk growled, getting used to being a mentor again.
Oddkit rolled her eyes, stopped when her foster father stopped as well. "This is the place? Looks fine to me," she padded over to where Soul sat down, near a berry bush.
Hawk turned to Mintpaw, his eyes no longer held the amusement and embarrassment he had before. "For starters, you are going to show me every battle move you know, in a practice battle. I'll be your opponent," he lowered his head as he distanced himself about a fox-length away from the apprentice.

Every battle move she knew? She knew a good few of those, the question was whether or not she could execute them. "Alright! Let's go!" She got into a battle stance and thought about what she wanted to do first. She decided to start off simple and dashed forward, going for a swipe with her forepaw and aiming for his face.

Hawk raised himself up and slammed his forepaws down, hoping he hit the apprentice, although he didn't count on it. When his forepaws met the ground he pushed forward and spun around.

Mintpaw saw him move and jumped out of the way, counting on her speed to carry her out of the situation. She shifted her weight to her front paws and brought her back paws up into the air, bunching the muscles together and then extending her legs into a strong backwards kick aimed directly at his head.

He blinked as he took the blow, and took a hold of her tail with his teeth. He flung her into a bramble bush.
Soul and Oddkit watched quietly, the kits eyes where wide as the tom watched their moves.

Mintpaw yowled in surprise as she was tossed into a bramble bush, her tail hurting from his teeth and the force of his throw. She pushed it out of her mind and wriggled against the thorns, pushing herself backwards out of the bush so she could keep her distance from Hawk. Some of her silver fur remained in the bush, but she didn't have much time to worry about that. She kicked dirt and dust up at Hawk's face to win back some of the time she lost, an underhanded technique but one she liked, and then she tried to swipe his paws out from underneath him.

He hissed as dust ended up in his eyes, and he perked his ears up. Hawk stood still and became silent as he dashed towards where Mintpaw was.
"He heard her move," Soul muttered, wrapping his tail around Oddkit.

Mintpaw hissed in surprise and hopped out of the way, sprinting into the distance to put a gap between them. Then she spun around and crouched low in a defensive position.

Hawk turned his head, looking at where Mintpaw stood, his eyes still close. "Ashclan used to be a clan of tunnelers, so they knew how to use the dirt for blinding their opponents. Cedarclan learned a way to fight with the darkness." He lashed his tail as he smirked. "Scent and sound is all I need when I can't see."

Mintpaw grumbled. "I guess I'll have to remember that. It's good for surprising someone, though, don't you think? No one's expecting to suddenly have an eyeful of dirt."

"Try falling off a cliff! No one sees that coming!" "Oddkit!" "Too far?"
Hawk kept in the urge to laugh, knowing that he would hurt Soul's feelings and just keep urging the kit on.

Mintpaw also kept her mouth shut to hold back a chuckle despite how bad she felt for Soul in that moment. She looked back at Hawk and thought. She noticed a tree just to the right. She hadn't practised her acrobatics much, but her mentor showed her some cool skills that might come in handy if she could perform them right. She dashed forward and feinted right, then she dashed up the tree and pushed off, twisting herself around and hoping she'd be able to land right on Hawk's back. Her aim wasn't exactly spot on and the angle was funny, but if she was lucky, she'd manage.

He grunted as he felt Mintpaw land, and didn't hesitate as he rolled onto his back, hoping the apprentice would let go. Hawk shook his head and opened his eyes, ridding the dust quickly as he rubbed them. Soon enough, he was able to see again.

Mintpaw felt a rush of triumph as she managed the landing, but she let out a strangled squawk when Hawk rolled over, and she quickly relaxed her grip.

Hawk pounced at her, hoping to pin her down or at least make land a hit on her with his outstretched paws.

Mintpaw hadn't quite recovered and was pinned. She struggled, kicking Hawk hard with her back paws in an attempt to get him off.
