"Keep kicking," he growled, placing a paw on Mintpaw's throat. "Because if this was real, you'd most likely be dead before you managed to cause serious damage." Hawk glared at the apprentice, feeling annoyed at the constant kicking.

"Well, what should I do to defend myself, then?" she asked as she stopped kicking. She strained her head to try and look up at him, wondering what he'd say.

"Try to jump off before your opponent rolls. When they go limp on one side, jump off the opposite side of them. That leaves their belly open, and it's a good place to create serious wounds." He walked back a few steps, sitting down. "We're done, for now."

"Oh, okay! I got it!" she mewed, getting up. "That's all for today? Alright! It'll be nice to get some rest!" She yawned, jaw spreading wide. "Okay, let's head back."

"Who said we where heading back? You're learning one more thing," Hawk snapped.
Soul looked at Oddkit, seeing that her attention was on Hawk.

"Oh. You said we were done, so I thought we were heading back. My bad," she said, sitting down. "What is it?"

"Said with battle training," Hawk snapped, lashing his tail. "Since you're Willowclan, speed is what you usually use. So, you're going to learn to climb trees. And we aren't going back until you do." With that, he turned and climbed a tree, making it onto a branch in a few, short moments. "Get to work."

Mintpaw sighed. "I can already climb trees, though!" she mewed as she jumped at a tree trunk and started scaling it. It took her longer than Hawk did, naturally, but she managed it with little noticeable difficulty. Hauling herself into a branch, she looked over at him. "See?"

"Get back down and do it faster, a fox could have jumped up and grabbed your tail before you even laid a paw on a branch," Hawk said, glaring at her. "You picked me as your mentor, and I told you what you would expect."

Mintpaw huffed and climbed back down. Now that she had a feel for what she needed to do she climbed right back up, nearly halving the time it took. "There! I did it faster!" she said, beaming, although she was a little short of breath.

Mintpaw nodded and quietly obeyed. She climbed to the bottom and made her way right back up, moving faster again, and making her way higher. She settled in one of the branches at the upper mid-point of the tree and looked at Hawk. "How was that?"

Hawk looked up, seeing Mintpaw up higher on a branch. "Eh, not good, but not bad. Try once more, but higher. I'm timing you for this one. So hurry up!"
Soul looked down, seeing Oddkit looking up the tree, trying to find the two cats.

"Okay!" Mintpaw said, planning to get to the top this time. She scrambled back down and put all her effort into getting to the topmost branch that could support her as quickly as she could. She scurried up and flung herself onto the branch she had set as her goal, panting hard.

"Ten seconds," he mused, looking up at her with a glare. "I've seen an apprentice do it in eight. Anyway, we're done, with training for today." Hawk climbed down the tree and walked over to Soul and Oddkit.

Mintpaw shrugged. "Musta been some apprentice! Maybe tomorrow I'll beat that!" she mewed optimistically, always energetic even though she was quite exhausted. She climbed back down and joined the other three. "Are we going back now?"
