"The fiery plume of a Phoenix shines brighter than you, and a Unicorn's pelt is softer than your personality. I can name a many more creatures to compare you with May," L replied as he moved up a hill, seeing the leaves have turned to shades of red and orange. Winter was one thing to him, which was simple and easy for him, but for May. That was not going to go well.

"Yeah, but I'm not a Phoenix or a Unicorn! I'm talking about humans. Or at least, things that look like humans, y'know?" She gestured vaguely in his direction, still uncertain of what exactly he was. "So those don't count!" She also noticed the colourful leaves hanging from the trees, slowly growing more and more brittle with each passing day. Soon, they'd start to fall off. She loved the fall, and tried not to think about the approaching winter. She knew it would be hard to push on through sub-zero temperatures, but she had will and determination on her side. She'd do her best to push through.

"I can tell you some history of my kind, if you'd like," he offered. A cool breeze swept through the forest as they walked, and he hummed in appreciation. It wasn't too cold, it was just the right temperature to make one relax. He couldn't tell if the sky was clear or clouded, seeing as the trees seemed to weave a blanket over them. It had been too long since he had moved, or even just walk through the woods. Again, it was a nice change to what he was normally used to.

She nodded immediately upon hearing the suggestion. "Yeah, I'd like that!" May said, looking over at him. She'd wanted to know more about him for a long time. It looked as though she would finally get at least a small amount of information. It would appease her for the time being.

"This planet was created by our kind, when the elders decided that the slaughter of us was enough. Our kind was hunted by humans long ago, for our pelts and organs. Some hunted us mainly to use us as slaves, which didn't work so well in the end. It took the elders, along with a powerful being, to create this planet. Earth was the base, and this place is basically a copy of it. The elders created rules for us, knowing that mages and wizards were the only beings that had a tether to magic for the humans. This world was accessed and created by magic, and they can come here. How they do it, I'm not sure," L said, thinking how to continue with the story.
"We came and created this place to stop the slaughter, and yet, somehow, humans can still come to our world with magic."

May was quiet for once while she listened, wide-eyed. "Oh, wow. That sounds like it was horrible," she murmured, but she was caught up on a few particular facts. "But wait, they hunted you for your pelts? So then, you aren't usually in a human form, are you? 'Cause last time I checked, you had pretty human skin!" She took that magnificent opportunity to jab his cheek with her finger. "And how in the heck did I get here? I didn't mean to come here, trust me on that one, it just kinda happened. I don't even know magic."

"You might have gotten caught in someone's spell, or someone was really bad at calculating where the spell would be casted," L replied. He took a few moments to think before blinking, remembering a few words that were spoken. "What do you mean that I had pretty human skin? You call me hideous, then say that?" He questioned. "Unless you were being sarcastic like usual."

"Just 'cause you have human skin doesn't mean it's nice lookin'," May answered, grinning and lifting her shoulders in a shrug. "But hey, don't be upset. You'll find the girl for you one day. I mean, maybe. If you're lucky." She had an arsenal of ways to further insult him but decided to hold off for the fear she might permanently damage his self-esteem.

"I rather not date anyone right now, or for awhile for that matter." He looked up, seeing a crow on a branch watching him. "Since we're talking about partners, have you dated anyone before?" L didn't know how the conversation had gone to this, but it didn't bother him in the slightest.

May was accustomed to talking about things like this and hardly noticed the shift in topic. "Me? Yeah, sure I have. Three guys, two of 'em jerks and the third turned out to be a cheater. I went with the douchebag duo specifically so I could dump them in the most dream-crushing way possible and watch them cry." She laughed a very evil laugh, then her expression abruptly changed to an embarrassed one. "The third... I mighta liked him a little. But eh, I'm over it. He surprised me by being Jerk the Third so I tossed him out the window first chance I got, no remorse." She placed her hands on her hips and held her head high in a boastful manner. Then May looked up at L, a mischievously curious look in her eyes. "And what about you, huh? Was there ever a time you were popular with the ladies? Was there anyone you swooned over when no one was around? Tell me everything."

"I had eyes for no one, all I could do was watch my brother since our parents died, by hunter's hands, while we were young. He was still an infant when they passed. I believe some girls had an eye on me, a few even asked me out. Turned them all down. I had no time to look after someone else, even though we lived with three of my friends," L didn't stutter as he spoke, nor did his voice crack. He was surprised, however, when he found himself talking about his past with May, a human, no less.

May pouted. "Wow! Boring, that's what you are. I was hoping to hear something at least a little scandalous... Though I guess the fact that someone asked you out is a crime all on its own, really, isn't it?" She stuck her tongue out in disapproval. Then she seemed to think of something. "So you lived with three friends, right? So maybe... Were they all really only your friends?" She snickered, then shook her head. "I'm kidding, I get it, you had a duty to watch over what was left of your family."

He nodded, and said nothing more. A few moments passed before he stopped, narrowing his eyes before relaxing. "There's a Griffin up ahead, wait here a moment," he walked off without another word. The white and russet coloring of the Griffin made him smile, since it had been some time since he last saw one. Or even talk to one for that matter. When the creature looked his way, watched as it studied him before continuing it's meal. "Come up now May, just don't go fast or make sudden movements."

"A Griffin?" she asked, approaching curiously. When it came into view, she looked at it, wide-eyed with awe. "Wow, it's so cool," she murmured, admiring its fur and its feathers. She kept her movements slow as she'd been told to do, walking to L's side. "Do you see a lot of these?" She looked at its wings, and its dangerous looking talons, not to mention its sharp beak. She didn't want to spook it if it was the last thing she did.

"It's been awhile, but I have," he walked past the Griffin, watching as it lifted it's head and stared at May. "He can tell your human, May. Keep moving and keep your hands up." L walked towards the Griffin, making sure he was between the creature and May.

May's astounded expression gave way to caution as she heeded and obeyed L's orders, moving along with careful steps. "Right, right," she said, looking back at it as they passed by. She wondered what other unusual beasts were roaming the wilds of this odd world she stumbled upon.

L back up before turning and walking away, making sure the Griffin didn't follow. Luckily, the creature didn't, and he sighed out in relief. "They aren't friendly to humans either, seeing as they were hunted like us as well. Animals like the Pegasus and Unicorn shouldn't mind you, seeing as they weren't hunted as much," he said. L let himself relax, suddenly aware that the forest was thinning out so he could see the sky.

"Okay, got it. Griffins, bad. Unicorns and Pegasusususu... What's the plural for Pegasus, anyway?" She scratched her head thoughtfully, cheeks puffing out. Then she sighed and waved his hand in dismissal. "Ah, whatever. They're good. Note taken." Then she looked up at the sky, studying the clouds as they drifted along through the endless sea of blue. "Hey, hey, see that one?" She pointed vaguely into the sky, gesturing towards a cloud that caught her attention. "It looks like a guitar. Do you know how to play any instruments?"
('Pegasus' is being marked as misspelled and Firefox suggests the words gaseous, gaspers, and sugar-peas. Alrighty.)

L didn't answer the question, he had stopped listening a few moments ago. Another sound, faint yet sharp, and far away. He knew May couldn't hear it, but the sound itself made him glad it was that way or he would hear the end of it. The sound wouldn't let him escape into his thoughts or just simply ignore it. L tried thinking about what created the sound, muttering how he was getting a headache. Then the sound disappeared, quickly and suddenly. Now aggravated, from the sound and a headache, L growled out a curse in his language. The sound worried him, so he wasn't going to let it go easily.

May, who was still rambling on to no end, faltered mid-sentence when she noticed L becoming irritated. "Hey, hey." She could tell he wasn't paying her much mind so she patted his arm to get his attention. "Is there a problem? You don't look very happy. It's starting to bug me," she grumbled, wondering what was bothering him so much. She never thought for a second that she might be the bothersome one, because L had no right to be annoyed with someone he was hardly even paying attention to. "Don't just sit there and growl out some gibberish, honestly."
