He blinked and shook his head to think of the sound later. "Nothing, lets keep moving until the sun starts setting. If we're lucky enough, we might run into more creatures," he said, picking up the pace. L watched as they eventually ended up in an open field. The sun was starting to set by the time he believed it was a good time to set up for the night. "We may not have cover, but we should be fine for the night."

May didn't believe that nothing was wrong, but she wasn't going to pry any further into the matter. Looking out at the field, she asked, "So we're just gonna lay out here in the grass? Well, if you're sure it'll be fine, then I'm sure too." She gazed around, snickering a little. "Where do you want to camp out, then? Here? There?" She pointed around. "Not that it matters, we're in a huge field, this spot is no different from the one ten minutes over."

L merely rolled his eyes at her words. He wasn't really up for sarcasm at the moment, and setting up camp while there was still light was the best thing at the moment. "Choose a spot and I'll make a fire, or else the reapers will have fun tearing your soul out." He thought for a moment before smirking evilly. "Actually, I wonder how that actually works. I would get front row seats to the act!"

May shook her head. "Nah, bud," she said, not quite finding it in her to mention she had forgotten his name, "I'd be the one with the front row seat. I'd get to watch 'em tear it out of me right before my eyes." She laughed light-heartedly, enjoying the sarcastic duel they were having. After she promptly sat down and pointed, gesturing for him to make his fire where she indicated, she asked, "What do souls look like, anyway? I like to imagine them as colourful blobs, y'know? Mine would be orange. You know why? They say orange represents a strong will...and a stubborn personality." She grinned, proud of the fact she was so relentlessly annoying.

"Souls are an essence, and are more like a glowing orb with a gas. I've seen souls before, and it's both satisfying and terrifying." L had returned to his neutral look, trying to remember his info on souls. "Sometimes they can inhabit a body that wasn't their own, if the soul they inhabit is gone that is." He dug out a fire pit and settling sticks in the pit. The fire was created with a simple spell.

May watched as the fire burst to life, impressed despite herself at L's magic abilities, even though the spell was only a simple one. "Oh, really? But are they colourful?" she asked, not quite content with his answer. "I heard that in some mythology, they think souls are like fat ugly birds but with the head of the body they were born in. Did you know that? I'd hate to die and turn into one of those things." She stuck out her tongue.

"No, they're mostly invisible to the naked eye, since they were used by wizards and other human magic users. Usually, if a creature dies peacefully, such as a dragon, it's body turns into ash and blows away with the wind, while the soul fades and appears in the afterlife. It's a very rare occurrence, but interesting nonetheless. Not sure about humans though," he replied, shrugging.

"Ooh, that is interesting. It's kinda scary though, how wizards and stuff could use the souls of other beings for magic. It's like, those souls were living things once, but now they're just magical playthings!" She lay down on the grass, basking in the fire's warmth. "You know a lot of weird stuff, don'tcha?"

He narrowed his eyes at "just magical playthings." "It's because I lived here, and on Earth, and had to watch my parents die by hunters hands. We aren't playthings, neither are souls. This is why my kind, and every magical creature left Earth: we were seen as things to be played with, not actual living beings," he hissed, trying his best not to lose his temper and to change then and there. "This is why humans are killed when spotted here, because we don't want it to happen again!"

May was surprised by his sudden change in demeanour and sat up again, backing up a little. The fire cast an orange sheen onto her bright eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I get that. That's what I was sayin', it's scary. I dunno what you are or what kinda crazy crap happened on earth that long ago, but..." She sighed, laying back down. "Man, that just sucks. Like, people are so stupid sometimes. See a nice thing, and it's gotta be under their control, like snap." She snapped her fingers, turning over onto her side so her back was to him. "I'm just..gonna go to sleep now, alright? I'm sure we'll wanna be moving again early. So, g'night, whatsyourface." And she fell silent.

L only replied with a deep, guttural growl. The last time he was this angry was when he found out his brother had been taken without a fight. With a sigh, he ran a hand through his hair and laid down. He watched the dark clouds move for a few minutes. Then he sat up and opened up his bag, grabbing his journal and the other needed supplies. L wrote in his journal for a few moments, before deciding it was time to rest for the night. Putting the items away, he laid down once more and closed his eyes, falling asleep in a few minutes.

(Yeah, I'll start.)
L wasn't by the fire, and he had left a note that was on his bag. The note told that he had gone searching for fruit in the nearby forest, and had said to stay by the fire. The fire had long since diminished, leaving the warm ashes. Although, the area seemed tense and strange.

When May woke up and realized she was alone, and would be alone for who knew how much longer, she began to feel uncomfortable with her surroundings. She knew nothing of this place and it's dangers, only that she was a prime target for just about every being who called it home, and that was nothing if not a frightening feeling. But she was a rather brave person, so she obediently awaited L's return with a relaxed attitude, watching the last of the embers pulse with a dying heat every time the breeze brushed past.

A startled, yet angry roar cut the uncomfortable silence. Birds flew from the forest that the sound came from as the roars continued, ranging from anger to pain, and sometimes it sounded like a call for help. Other than that, it was the only sound that could be heard, other than faint yells if you listened close enough. Whatever seemed to be attacked, wasn't too happy about the encounter.

May shot to her feat when the loud roar split the air, audible even though she was a decent distance away from the source. The sound surprised her, and caused her some concern. What caused it? Should she investigate? She didn't know if L would approve of her leaving the fire, but then she recalled that he had gone into the forest. Was he okay? Of course, he probably was, he seemed quite capable. But it couldn't hurt to check, could it? Hesitantly, she rose to her feet, and crept towards the line of trees that marked the beginning of the forest. "Ugh. He'll kill me if he knows I left," she muttered, but she didn't stop walking.

Two hunters yelled at each other as the creature tried attacking them. The creature itself, was a dragon. The dragons scales were a mix of sapphire and obsidian, though some spots seemed to be covered in violet blood. The dragon couldn't breath flame, or else a forest fire would start, so all he could do was use its claws and teeth. Bullet wounds and slashes marked its pelt, and the dragon wished that dragons bane wasn't a thing, or else the bullets would have hurt much less.

(I CALLED IT HAH)
May's pace turned to a sprint as she entered the trees, but once she got close enough that she could hear the words being exchanged, she slowed down. She began creeping along, crouched among the plants, hoping she wouldn't be attacked on sight if she was spotted. She hadn't thought to check for a weapon among the supplies before coming, a rather silly mistake on her part, so she settled for a tough stick she found. She tore off the twigs that were sprouting from it to create a set of sharp points along the surface. A pitiful weapon against armed people, but it was the best she could do. Approaching the scene, she ducked low, relying on the foliage to camouflage her presence. It took a lot of effort to keep down her gasp when she saw the large blue and black dragon. She gazed over at the two hunters it was attacking, both of them carrying better weaponry than herself. She wasn't sure what to do, so she laid low for the time.

(I'm laughing to hard at your callout X'D I thought you'd knew, I tried to keep it subtle! Probably ruined it with L showing his blood color..)
The dragon muttered something under it's breath, unaware of the other presence. The spell it uttered would take a few moments, but it was better than nothing. It spotted a hunter that was trying to get in it's blind-spot, and managed to make the hunter fall with it's tail. The dragon turned and jumped forward, crushing the hunter with it's claws, and knocking the gun and sword away from the hunter and towards May. A scream of pain managed to cut the air and the dragon grabbed the hunter's head and twisted it, making the screams stop quickly. This time, the dragon roared in pain as his shoulder was pierced with bullets, and the creature fell to its side. Once more, the dragon wished that dragonsbane was a myth.

(That was part of it. I didn't actually make that connection until L mentioned his organs and stuff were valuable, though, and then I remembered his blood, and I was like WAIT JUST A MINUTE! XD)
May jumped back in surprise when the gun and the sword were flung in her direction. Hoping they were all too distracted by the struggle to notice her sudden movement, she snatched the weapons and was about to attack when the dragon was shot and toppled onto its side. She muttered a curse and hoped it was alright. It might have been odd to be concerned about the dragon as opposed to the hunters, but after listening to all of the tales L told her of humans and magical creatures, she knew the dragon was not the one in the wrong. The hunters were likely trying to eliminate it for the sake of their greed, she thought. She didn't see another reason why dragons would be attacked in this world, the one made specially for their freedom and safety. So, taking a deep breath to steady herself and harden her will, she raised the gun and aimed at the hunter, firing a few shots at its chest. In case she missed, she moved to another hiding place so that the source of the gunshots couldn't be traced back to her as easily. Then she waited to see what happened.
