The thought that someone was lurking around made Abrevynen's nerves tingle anxiously and he ducked underneath one of Vezolth's wings to defend himself, just in case.

They stalked up closer, smart enough to know not to start a fight with something that was bigger than yourself. The opportunity was there, yes, but they were only four feet tall for god's sake. A growl of annoyance came from their maw. "First that movement in that treasure trove of a den that's guarded by a shield, then an empty stomach. Granted, I had two snacks earlier, but that won't do." They tilted their head, deciding to tend and clean this serpent's feathers. "Might as well clean these feathers, they're so filthy!"

Abrevynen shuffled when he heard a voice outside. He could detect movement. Was an enemy nearby? "Is there someone out there?" he whispered, hoping Vezolth would hear him and check to make sure they were safe.

They managed to hear this, looking under the wings until they spotted Abrevynen. Time to pull on their charm, or whatever. "Oh! I'm sorry to disturb you, sir. I was deep in my own thoughts when I came over. I thought someone new could help solve them, but I didn't realize there was two and one was asleep. The serpent's feathers looked messy too, so I thought I'd clean them. Probably not a good decision, whoops!" They took a few steps back. "I won't bite, I promise. My looks do tend to scare others. Oh dear me, I'm a mess!" They swiped the plume of their tail over their trinkets, seeing that there were a tad dirty.

Abrevynen squeaked and shied away from this strange beast that had appeared out of nowhere and decided to groom Vezolth's feathers. "U-um, um, um," he spluttered, staying pressed against the Quetzal for comfort. "I, uh... As long as you aren't dangerous, I guess that's not, uh, too bad," he decided hesitantly. "But, um, what's your problem?"

They decided to keep the topic of food to themselves. Maybe another time with a different look. "I'm sorry if I sound like a child, but shiny trinkets or items are my fancy. I spotted some in this den, which was covered in vines and moss, and it looked glorious! However, there's a shield inside it and someone living in there. They moved and gave a grunt, but I didn't stay around long to see what it is." They shivered at the recent memory. "I only just recently came here too, so I know next to nothing!"

Abrevynen heard the mention of a shielded den and felt his legs go weak. That sounded too familiar for comfort. It reminded him of the home of someone he once knew, 100 long years ago... He recovered before a spasm of panic could take over and took a deep breath. He reminded himself that it was silly to think things like that. There was no way that it was the same beast as the one he was recalling. He'd given up hope of ever seeing 'her' again. "So, do you want some back-up or something, then?" Abrevynen wondered, backing closer to Vezolth for comfort. "Well, we aren't exactly in good shape, so I guess you'll have to check somewhere else... Sorry."

"I see. Well thank you anyway," They said, finding that they were done cleaning Vezolth's feathers. They did note, however, how quickly this little ferret changed when they spoke of the den. An opportunity perhaps? "I'm a Leocrutta, by the way. I hope we meet again in peaceful terms. Good day." They stood, going back to the forest with a plan. Perhaps if the creature in that shielded den could speak, then perhaps they could mimic their voice? It was something worth trying, even if it meant shoving their face into an entire patch of flowers.

Abrevynen heaved a sigh of relief as the unique creature wandered away. He glanced up at Vezolth, but didn't say anything before settling down to relax once again.

Vezolth grumbled in his sleep, snoring slightly as she slept.
The Leocrutta walked back towards the den, making sure their hoofsteps were quiet as they sat down. Their eyes closed, and they listened intently. They stayed there until they managed to catch a voice, as well as a few names. "Thank you, and I'm sorry. Hopefully they're still there, and maybe that serpent is still asleep."

Abrevynen was too scared to let himself nap, but he did close his eyes, relaxing to the sound of Vezolth's breathing.
Zilius was up and working hard, as usual. His home, which had expanded grandly from the meagre hut it had been decades ago, still had work to be done on it. He untied his small ponytail and dried the sweat from his face and neck, then tied it back up and kept going. Some rooms had yet to be furnished, and some still had floors and walls that weren't quite finished, but he was working hard to make it into the suitable home he desired. He'd known going into it that it would be a long-term project.
And then there was the Qilin, who was content with the simple life they led. It consisted of little more than observing, enjoying the world they were blessed enough to walk upon. They were wandering in their mighty equine form at the time, striding along the river's surface like it was solid ground.

The Leocrutta hummed, their excitement spiking when they saw their 'help' was still there. "Let's see if I still got it." They shifted into the form of a bird, familiar attributes still on their body. After a moment, they tested the voice quietly before speaking up in the kitsune's voice. "Ugh, where is everyone?"
Vezolth grumbled, his tail twitching as he dreamed. The dream he had was starting to become common, but overall it was annoying to listen to every single chance he got.

Abrevynen jolted immediately upon hearing a voice he knew as well as his very own. "Ah!" he exclaimed, jumping to his paws as thought he'd been revitalized. Of course, his body was still weak, so his legs dropped his weight shortly after he picked himself up. He groaned at the pain and took a second to relax, then slowly got to his paws once more. "Vezolth!" he called, his voice hoarse. "Wake up, wake up! You have to wake up!" He climbed onto the serpent's head and tickled his nose with his feathery wings in an attempt to wake him. He was eager to find the source of the voice he heard, but he wouldn't dare leave Vezolth's side.

Vezolth woke with a jolt, sneezing and groaning. "What? I was having a good dream." A blatant lie, but he rather keep his dreams to himself. He sat up, rubbing his eyes.
The Leocrutta ignored the guilt that gnawed in their belly, but said nothing else at the moment.

Abrevynen was shaking in his hide, hardly able to contain the restless rush of emotion that was attacking his tired, confused nerves. "I... I just heard Kowara's voice," he breathed, swallowing the lump that appeared in his throat as confused, frightened tears formed in his eyes. "But I don't sense her presence... I'm so confused. What do we do, Vezolth? What do we do?"

"It's so quiet.." They hummed, continuing the act as they flew back to the mound. The Leocrutta nearly fell when they saw the home shimmer, blinking in confusion before landing on a near it on a branch.
"Let's check it out. You might be too stressed to notice the presence bud," Vezolth yawned, blinking and grumbling as he stretched his body. The voice startled him too, but he was too tired to care.

Abrevynen nodded slowly, forcing himself to calm down. "Okay, okay. Let's hope that's the case, let's go." He held his perch on Vezolth's head and kept his eyes forward, nervously waiting to see what they'd find. Unlike Vezolth, he was stunned by the voice even in spite of his intense exhaustion, and he felt like he'd pass out if he didn't find out what it was! But then, what it if wasn't Kowara? So many scenarios were racing through his head, and he was grateful he wasn't on his paws. He wouldn't have been able to keep himself steady.

Vezolth started making his way back to the forest, biting his tongue as he moved forward. He blinked when he saw the home, slithering up to it. The atmosphere was different than usual, and he moved slower. "Hey uh, is something different or is it just me?" He flinched when something was thrown out of the home, a squawk sounding right after. The Leocrutta fell to the ground, whining as it got up and ran off with a curse.
"I still got it!" Cackled a familiar voice from inside the home. A cough followed. "Oh hell, where's the water? My throat is dryer than a desert in a drought... That's not a good comparison, is it?"

The moment they neared the home, Abrevynen was imbued with an overpowering sensation of warmth, so strong he nearly fell from his perch atop Vezolth's head. "Kowara! Kowara, it is her! She's back! Kowara!" As though revived, Abrevynen took to the sky, powering himself forward on wings that shone with a new lustre, boasting plumage that were fluffy and healthy and glittering with flourish. "Kowara!" He dived towards the home without a second thought, his very essence sparkling with new life.

Vezolth stayed where he was, narrowing his eyes after a moment and turning around. "I'm going back to the field," he grumbled, going back out to the warmth to continue his nap. He wasn't surprised with how his friend was revived. Overall he was happy, yet ticked at the same time. Everything he did seemed to be nothing but dust now.
Kowara sat up, hissing as she rubbed her back. Her name being called jolted her awake, and she rubbed her eyes. "Well if it ain't a ferret, what took you so long?" She said playfully, looking around her home. "My home is crap, wow. Shoulda done a preservation spell so nothing would rot. Maybe I can use that in a different way now."
